Does Sri Lanka have a recreational use program?
No, Sri Lanka does not have a recreational use program. The government of Sri Lanka forbids the use of cannabis in any way and has an unyielding stance against its sale, usage, and possession.
Minimal cultivation is also allowed, although the only people who are legally allowed to produce cannabis plants are the government and growers who have received government approval.
Does Sri Lanka have a medical program?
Cannabis use for medical purposes has been approved in Sri Lanka, but only for patients seeing Ayurvedic physicians. Act No. 31 of 1961, as amended by Act No. 5 of 1962, the Ayurveda Act, permits ayurveda doctors to obtain opium and cannabis for the purpose of manufacturing their medical cannabis formulations.
Cannabis is legally available for purchase in Sri Lanka through Ayurvedic herbal stores, and with a license from the Ministry of Health, it can be utilized for scientific and medical research.
What are the rules for medical use?
It is unlawful to possess or use cannabis for personal use outside of Ayurvedic medicine. Patients using medical marijuana must consult with conventional Ayurvedic physicians in order to obtain correctly manufactured cannabis medications.

Is CBD legal in Sri Lanka?
No, CBD is not legal in Sri Lanka. Any portion of the cannabis plant cannot be used, possessed, sold, or grown according to the Poisons, Opium, and Dangerous Drugs Act. Since industrial hemp and all CBD products are regarded as a component of the marijuana plant, this also applies to them.
Since CBD oil is regarded as a component of the marijuana plant, using it for either medicinal or recreational purposes is prohibited. The sole exemption is CBD oil, which can be used by traditional practitioners with a license from the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health and which was bought from an Ayurvedic herbal store.
Is cannabis decriminalized in Sri Lanka?
No, cannabis is not decriminalized in Sri Lanka. The Poisons, Opium, and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance imposes harsh penalties for the possession, sale, and distribution of cannabis.
Possession, sale, and distribution of cannabis are illegal under the Poisons, Opium, and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance and carry harsh penalties.
Possession of cannabis carries a fine and/or a maximum 5-year prison sentence. A fine and/or a maximum 10-year jail sentence may be imposed for the sale or distribution of cannabis. 20 years in prison and/or a fine are possible penalties for growing cannabis.
