Does France have a recreational use program?

No, France does not have a recreational use program. However, cannabis is a drug that is extensively used in France even though it is banned. According to some reports, the population of this country is among the world’s biggest users of cannabis.

 

Does France have a medical program?

No, France does not have a medical use program. However, A two-year trial that involves three thousand patients is now in progress.

The experiment for medical cannabis use was authorized by a decree announced by Health Minister Olivier Véran on October 9th, 2020, and began on January 2021.

The French government declared in March 2021 that it will let some patients use medical cannabis.

 

What are the rules for medical use?

Patients have to get a 28-day prescription from a specialized physician, and within three days of that prescription being issued, they have to buy the product from a pharmacy.

Patients must pay for medicinal cannabis out of pocket because French health insurance does not cover its cost.

 

What are the qualifying medical conditions for eligibility?

Only individuals with severe illnesses, such as multiple sclerosis, neuropathic pain, chemotherapy side effects, or palliative care side effects, are included in the trial sample.

 

What are the medical program limits?

Sativex is only prescribed to treat patients with multiple sclerosis; it is not readily available over the counter.

 

What methods of use are permitted under the medical program?

Only two types of medical cannabis are permitted in France. Spray form for inhalation (dry flowers) and oral form (oil, CBD, and THC-containing tablet). Both varieties have CBD and THC. Marijuana smoking is not permitted throughout the trial.

There are no clear rules about it.

 

Is CBD legal in France?

Yes, CBD is legal in France. As long as the amount of CBD in France is less than 0.2% THC, it is allowed.

 

Is cannabis decriminalized in France?

Yes, cannabis is decriminalized in France. Adults found in possession of up to 100 grams of marijuana face a €200 fine.

Nevertheless, anyone discovered in unlawful possession of cannabis may still face prison terms of up to a year.
