Does Cyprus have a recreational use program?

No, Cyprus does not have a recreational use program.

 

Does Cyprus have a medical program?

Yes, medical cannabis is legal in Cyprus. In January 2017, Cyprus allowed the medical use of cannabis oil, but only for patients with severe cancer. A more comprehensive law that expanded the list of qualifying medical conditions was passed in February 2019.

 

What are the rules for medical use?

Growing, importing, exporting, possessing, and using cannabis for medical purposes are all permitted.  Patients who meet the requirements can visit a specialist physician for a prescription, which they can fill at a pharmacy.

Despite this, patients are still unable to gain access to cannabis. Medical patients may still have to wait to get medical marijuana, but for personal use, cannabidiol (CBD) is easy to get and sell all over Cyprus.

What are the medical program limits?

The program has limitations because, during the first fifteen years of its existence, the law only permitted three cannabis producers.

Despite cannabis being authorized for medical use, you are not currently able to obtain it for recreational or medical use in Cyprus. In the same way, you are not allowed to import it. Even if you have a medical marijuana card, it is advised that you leave your cannabis at home if you are planning a trip to the area.

Even for medicinal purposes, it is not permitted to cultivate cannabis seeds or to grow any cannabis plants.

Is CBD legal in Cyprus?

Yes, CBD is legal in Cyprus. Products made with CBD must have no more than 0.2% THC. Products with THC concentrations of more than 0.2% are illegal and may be subject to fines or even jail time.

 

Is cannabis decriminalized in Cyprus?

No, cannabis is not decriminalized in Cyprus. In Cyprus, using cannabis is illegal and carries harsh penalties, especially for anyone caught in possession of the drug. Marijuana possession carries fines, jail time, property seizure, and deportation for non-Cypriot nationals.
