No, Antigua and Barbuda does not have a recreational use program. As of June 2023, Antigua and Barbuda have emerged as one of the initial Caribbean nations to authorize Rastafari practitioners to cultivate and use their sacred herb.

Does Antigua and Barbuda have a medical program?

Yes, medical cannabis is legal in Antigua and Barbuda. In April 2019, Antigua and Barbuda revealed their medical marijuana initiative in accordance with the Cannabis Act of 2018.

 

What are the rules for medical use?

To recommend medicinal cannabis, a medical professional needs to be registered and approved by the Medical Cannabis Authority and the Minister. Once authorized, they must promptly notify the Authority to issue numbered and authorized counterfoil medicinal cannabis recommendations. Patients with these recommendations can apply for a Medicinal Cannabis Patient Identification Card from an authorized dispensary. Authorized patients may designate a caregiver for immediate care and safety, with minors requiring a caregiver who is either a parent or legal guardian.

 

What are the qualifying medical conditions for eligibility?

  • chronic pain
  • glaucoma
  • migraine
  • persistent muscle spasms, including, but not limited to, spasms associated with

  • dravet’s syndrome
  • any other illness or condition approved by the authorized medical professional

What are the medical program limits?

Only numbered and authorized counterfoil medicinal cannabis issued by the Cannabis Authority and approved by the Minister can be recommended by authorized medical professionals.

What methods of use are permitted under the medical program?

Only “Medicinal Cannabis-Infused Products,” including but not limited to edibles, ointments, and tinctures, that are not classified as food or drugs by the Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards. Intravenous methods are not permitted.

Is there home delivery for medical cannabis?

No clear rules about home delivery for medical cannabis.

Is CBD legal in Antigua and Barbuda?

No, CBD is not legal in Antigua and Barbuda. 

 

Is cannabis decriminalized in Antigua and Barbuda?

Yes, cannabis is decriminalized in Antigua and Barbuda. Individuals holding up to 15 grams of cannabis or cannabis resin are not subject to legal offenses.
